The Threeworlds Fusion Collapsible Fire Contact Staff combines the performance of a full-length fire contact staff with the convenience of a modular, travel-friendly design. Featuring 4 inch (10 cm) Kevlar end wicks, 7075 aluminum fire contact ends, and your choice of aluminum or carbon fiber handle, it’s built for smooth contact rolls, spinning, and fire performances.

Part of the Threeworlds Fusion modular system, this staff breaks down into three sections for easy transportation and allows you to swap compatible ends without purchasing an entirely new staff.

Built for Fire Contact Staff

The Fusion Contact Fire Staff features two 7075 aluminum end pieces fitted with 4 inch (10 cm) Kevlar wicks. The substantial end weight helps maintain momentum through contact rolls and rotations, while the extended grip provides traction along most of the staff’s length.

Choose between EPDM, F-Grip, and silicone tubing to customize the feel of your staff. Each material offers a different combination of cushioning, traction, and performance in changing conditions.

Collapsible for Easy Travel

Full-length contact staffs aren’t exactly convenient travel companions. The Fusion system solves this by allowing the staff to separate into three sections, reducing its packed length to approximately one-third of its assembled size.

The modular construction makes it easier to transport your staff to festivals, performances, workshops, and other destinations without sacrificing the feel of a full-length prop.

Secure Fusion Pressure-Fit Connections

The Threeworlds Fusion system uses expanding pressure-fit connectors to join the staff sections without permanent fasteners through the tubing. Twisting the connection compresses internal rubber bushes, expanding them against the inside of the staff ends to create a secure fit.

When properly installed and tightened, the connections provide a stable feel while allowing the staff to be quickly assembled or disassembled.

For assembly instructions and maintenance information, read our Fusion Pressure-Fit Connector Guide.

Choose Your Material & Grip

Customize your staff with either high-strength 7075 aluminum or lightweight carbon fiber. Aluminum provides a heavier shaft with greater tolerance for impacts, while carbon fiber reduces overall weight and shifts a greater percentage of the staff’s mass toward the fire ends.

Both materials are available with EPDM, F-Grip, or silicone tubing, allowing you to choose the grip characteristics that best suit your spinning style.

One Staff, Multiple Configurations

The Fusion system allows you to replace the fire contact ends with other compatible components, including practice ends and LED contact staff ends.

You can also add compatible dragon staff hubs and spokes to create a combination fire contact and dragon staff setup. Explore our Staff Components for compatible accessories and replacement parts.

What’s Included

Fire Safety & Maintenance

Fire spinning involves inherent risks and requires proper training, safety equipment, and precautions. Always inspect your staff, Fusion connectors, and Kevlar wicks before use. Ensure all connections are securely tightened, and never spin fire without appropriate safety measures in place.

Before lighting up, please review our Safety Disclaimer, Fire Safety for Flow Arts Guide, and Fire Prop Maintenance Guide for important safety information and care instructions.

Variations

Grip

  • EPDM: A synthetic black rubber grip that is durable, padded, and reliable in less-than-ideal conditions. It maintains traction well around sweat, humidity, and dust and tends to become grippier as it breaks in. New EPDM may leave a small amount of black residue on your hands at first, but it washes off easily. It requires little maintenance.
  • F-Grip: A textured natural black rubber tube grip that combines some of the best characteristics of EPDM and silicone. It is easy to clean like silicone while maintaining traction better when sweat, moisture, or dirt are involved. It requires no break-in period and provides consistent grip from the start. F-Grip is currently our most popular all-around option and is the heaviest of the standard grips.
  • Silicone: High-temperature silicone tubing with a lightly textured surface. It is one of the tackiest options when clean and dry and is also the easiest to clean. A quick wipe with water or rubbing alcohol can restore its tackiness when dirty. Silicone can lose more traction than EPDM or F-Grip when wet or sweaty, so occasional cleaning helps keep it performing consistently.

Not sure which one to choose? Read our Staff Grip Guide for a more detailed comparison of EPDM, F-Grip, silicone, and other common staff grip materials.

Material

  • 7075 Aluminum: A high-strength aluminum alloy that provides a heavier, more substantial feel. The additional handle weight creates a more evenly distributed weight profile throughout the staff. Aluminum is also durable and more tolerant of repeated drops and impacts, making it a reliable and budget-friendly option.
  • Carbon Fiber: Lightweight and strong, making it a popular choice for spinners who prefer a lighter, more responsive staff. Since the contact fire ends remain aluminum regardless of your material selection, choosing a carbon fiber handle reduces the weight of the center section while maintaining the same end weight. This creates a more pronounced end-weighted feel that can be beneficial for contact rolls and rotational momentum.

Want a deeper breakdown of the differences? Read our Aluminum vs. Carbon Fiber in Flow Props Guide.

Length

For a contact staff, we generally recommend starting around chin height, although some spinners prefer a slightly shorter staff depending on their experience and spinning style.

Read our Staff Length Guide for a more detailed breakdown of contact staff sizing and help choosing the right length.

Staff Flowers

Staff flowers help slow down rolling speed, providing more control during contact movements depending on your spinning style. They also add weight near the ends of the staff, which can improve weight distribution for contact rolls and help maintain rotational momentum.

Flow toys are props and tools used in flow arts, which is a movement based art-form that involves object manipulation. Flow props are extensions of your body and tools for self expression.

Despite being called “toys”, flow toys are meant for everyone and you will find that a majority of flow artists are actually adults! Contemporary flow arts include many modalities like dance, martial arts, or just “free-flow.”

The best flow toy to start with is the one that you’re most excited to learn. Although some props might be more difficult to learn than others, this differs greatly from one person to another. We found that the more excited you are to learn a specific prop, the more likely you will be to practice and learn quickly.

Stick props like dragon staff, contact staff, or spin staff can be easier for some since its a more static prop that you can hold onto. Rope props like poi and rope dart require more plane control at the beginning but are also much easier to travel with. Others like flow stars and pixel whips have their own kind of movements that don’t really fall into the other two categories we mentioned. But they’re super popular for ravers and festival goers!

We have a feeling you’ll end up owning more than one type of prop though so regardless of what your friend thinks is the best flow toy to start with, just get whatever you’re most excited to learn!

Fire dancing carries some inherent risks, but if you follow all of our fire safety instructions the risks are very avoidable. We recommend feeling super comfortable with a flow toy before lighting it on fire for the first time.

If you’re new to flow arts, we also recommend getting a daytime practice prop (or even LED prop) since you might be dropping your flow toy a lot when you’re first learning. The Kevlar on fire props can deteriorate much more quickly from repetitive drops, so practice props are ideal to keep them safe.

We have fire, LED, and daytime versions of most of our main props. Even if you can only afford one version and end up starting with a fire prop, they can be protected with wick covers. No matter what type you have, we recommend practicing on soft ground like grass to protect them as much as possible.

After you read the fire safety guide linked above and before lighting up you fire tool, please also read through our safety disclaimer.

We ship our products Monday-Friday from Los Angeles, CA, USA. Many of our listed products are ready-to-ship unless we have to assemble them, which can add a day or two to process. That being said, we ship out orders in the order they are placed within 1-2 business days (with some exceptions like holiday seasons).

Once shipped, we use USPS for orders in the USA and usually UPS for all international orders. Ground shipping in the US usually takes about 3-5 business days from shipping date, while priority shipping can be between 1-3 business days from shipping date. These are estimations and not guarantees as USPS might have delays, but reach out to us if you are looking for more specific time frames!

We can’t promise any specific shipping timeframes for international delivery as customs can cause many unforeseen delays.

Contact staffs are a unique type of flow prop designed for dynamic movements and intricate body rolls. Unlike traditional staffs that are primarily held in the hands, contact staffs are designed to maintain contact with the body, rolling smoothly across the arms, shoulders, back, and neck. They typically should be be sized for chin height. The added end weight allows for better center point balance and stability during rolls. Contact staffs are one of the most popular tools used in both fire and LED performances.

Other kinds of staffs include spin and double staffs. Spin staffs are not as heavily weighted as contact staffs, so they can be spun much more quickly. This is popular for more martial arts styles of movement where contact manipulation isn’t used as much. Double staffs are shorter than spin and contact staffs. Because of two tools being used, it allows for more complex patterns of spinning as well as geometric shapes that can be created.
