Mega Isis Fire Heads are oversized pure Kevlar rope heads designed for building larger fire poi, rope darts, puppyhammers, meteors, and other rope-based fire props. Compared with our standard Isis Fire Heads, the Mega Isis uses substantially more wick to create a heavier head with greater fuel capacity and a larger flame profile.
These are a good choice for experienced fire performers who specifically want the additional weight and fire produced by an oversized wick head. The added mass also gives rope-based props more momentum, which can create a slower, more deliberate feel once the head is moving.
Oversized Pure Kevlar Construction
Each Mega Isis head is constructed from pure Kevlar rope arranged into the characteristic Isis-style wick pattern. The large amount of exposed wick provides plenty of surface area for fuel absorption and combustion, producing a substantial flame without relying on fiberglass-blended wick.
The larger fuel capacity can also produce longer burns than smaller Isis heads under comparable conditions, although actual burn time varies considerably with fuel, fueling technique, environmental conditions, and how the prop is used.
One Fire Head, Plenty of Possibilities
Mega Isis heads can be incorporated into a variety of rope-based fire props, including:
- Fire Poi: Build a pair of large, heavy fire poi with considerably more wick than a standard setup.
- Fire Rope Dart: Use a single head to create a high-momentum fire dart with a large flame profile.
- Puppyhammer / Oxbow: Place a head at each end of a longer tether for two-ended spinning and contact-inspired movements.
- Meteor & Meteor Hammer: Suitable for longer two-ended configurations where additional head weight and momentum are desirable.
If you want a complete prop rather than building your own, we also offer the Mega Isis construction as Mega Isis Fire Poi and a Mega Isis Fire Rope Dart.
Designed for Bigger Fire
The Mega Isis is intentionally large and heavy. That means more fuel capacity and a larger flame profile, but it also means considerably more momentum and heat than smaller fire heads. Performers should already be comfortable controlling their chosen prop before moving up to a head of this size.
Always thoroughly spin off excess fuel before ignition and regularly inspect the Kevlar and attachment hardware for wear or damage. For proper care and wick maintenance, read our Fire Prop Maintenance Guide.
Fire spinning involves inherent risks, particularly as wick size and fuel capacity increase. Review our Fire Safety for Flow Arts guide and Safety Disclaimer before use.
Basically, if the regular Isis head looked reasonable and your immediate reaction was “but what if there were significantly more of it?” this is that.
