For rope dart artists who prefer bigger flames and a substantial spinning feel, the Mega Isis Fire Rope Dart delivers. Featuring an oversized Kevlar rope wick head with exceptional fuel capacity, this fire rope dart combines the classic Isis design with a much thicker construction for impressive burns and powerful visual effects.

Unlike traditional Isis heads made from flat Kevlar wick, Mega Isis heads are constructed using Kevlar rope. The initial Isis knot is tied loosely, allowing additional rope wick to be threaded through the loops to create a significantly thicker, fuller head. The result is an oversized fire head that absorbs more fuel, supports longer burns, and provides substantial momentum during rope dart techniques.

Choose between heat-resistant Technora and smooth, uncoated Dyneema to customize how your rope dart handles. Both options include securely spliced connections, a swivel, a removable quick link, and an integrated hand loop.

What Makes Mega Isis Different?

The Mega Isis takes the familiar Isis knot and expands on its construction to create a much larger fire head with increased fuel capacity.

  • Kevlar Rope Wick: Unlike traditional Isis heads made from flat wick, Mega Isis uses 100% Kevlar rope threaded through a loosely knotted Isis foundation.
  • Greater Fuel Capacity: The additional Kevlar provides more material to absorb fuel, supporting larger flames and longer potential burn times.
  • Substantial Weight: Weighing approximately 8.00 oz (227 g), the Mega Isis head provides considerable momentum during swings, throws, and other rope dart movements.
  • Oversized Design: Measuring approximately 5.5 inch (14 cm) long and 3 inch (7.6 cm) wide, Mega Isis offers a significantly larger profile than traditional Isis fire heads.
  • 100% Kevlar Wick: Made from pure Kevlar rope wick without fiberglass blended into the fibers.

The increased weight makes Mega Isis particularly appealing to experienced rope dart artists who enjoy substantial heads and momentum-driven techniques. The additional mass also requires more control when accelerating, redirecting, and stopping the dart.

Choose Your Rope Dart Leash

We offer two high-performance rope materials, each with distinct advantages depending on your experience and preferred spinning style. Both options use 3/16 inch (5 mm) rope and measure approximately 10 ft 2 inch (310 cm).

  • Black Technora: A high-strength, heat-resistant aramid rope particularly well suited for beginners. Its excellent heat resistance makes it more forgiving of accidental tangles and brief exposure to elevated temperatures. Technora has a slightly textured feel against the skin and gradually softens with use. The leash uses a continuous length of Technora from the hand loop to the dart-end hardware.
  • Black Dyneema: An exceptionally smooth, lightweight rope preferred by many intermediate and advanced rope dart artists. Our Dyneema is completely uncoated, with no polyurethane coating, so it feels smooth right out of the package without requiring a break-in period. A heat-resistant Technora lead is spliced between the Dyneema and the dart-end hardware to provide additional protection near the flame.

Important: Dyneema has a much lower melting temperature than Technora. Although the Technora lead provides additional protection near the fire head, the Dyneema portion can still melt if exposed to flames or excessive heat. We generally recommend Technora for beginners and Dyneema for more experienced rope dart artists who prioritize smoothness and have developed consistent rope control.

Swivel & Quick Link Connection

Each Mega Isis Fire Rope Dart includes a swivel and quick-link connection between the leash and fire head.

  • Swivel: Helps prevent the rope from twisting excessively during rotations and other spinning movements.
  • Quick Link: Allows the Mega Isis fire head to be detached or replaced without replacing the entire leash.

The connection hardware is securely attached to the rope using spliced construction rather than relying on a simple knot.

Integrated Hand Loop

Instead of a separate handle, the rope dart features an integrated hand loop formed by splicing the end of the rope back into itself.

To create the handle, pass the rope dart and remaining leash through the small spliced loop, then pull it through to form a larger, secure loop that fits around your entire hand.

This simple design provides a dependable connection without adding unnecessary handle hardware. You can also shorten the effective rope length by tying additional loops near the handle end.

Choosing Your Rope Dart Length

The included leash measures approximately 10 ft 2 inch (310 cm), providing plenty of length for a variety of spinning styles and body proportions.

A common starting point for rope dart sizing is your wingspan plus the distance from your shoulder to the ground. This measurement should account for the complete setup, including the rope, fire head, and connection hardware.

If the supplied leash is longer than your preferred setup, you can shorten the effective length by tying additional loops near the handle end.

Fire Safety & Maintenance

The Mega Isis Fire Rope Dart contains substantially more wick material than standard fire heads, allowing it to absorb more fuel. Its increased weight and the length of the rope also require additional control, adequate spinning space, and appropriate safety precautions.

  • Never soak Technora or Dyneema ropes in fuel. Only the Kevlar wick head should be fueled.
  • Remove excess fuel before lighting to reduce the risk of fuel being thrown during spinning.
  • Keep the leash away from direct flames whenever possible, especially when using Dyneema.
  • Inspect your Kevlar head, rope leash, splices, swivel, and quick link before every use.
  • Replace any rope showing signs of fraying, melting, heat damage, or compromised splices.
  • Ensure the quick link is fully closed and securely tightened before spinning.
  • Avoid leaving the burning dart stationary on the ground, as concentrated heat can damage the rope and surrounding surfaces.
  • Practice new techniques with unlit equipment before attempting them with fire.

Flow toys are props and tools used in flow arts, which is a movement based art-form that involves object manipulation. Flow props are extensions of your body and tools for self expression.

Despite being called “toys”, flow toys are meant for everyone and you will find that a majority of flow artists are actually adults! Contemporary flow arts include many modalities like dance, martial arts, or just “free-flow.”

The best flow toy to start with is the one that you’re most excited to learn. Although some props might be more difficult to learn than others, this differs greatly from one person to another. We found that the more excited you are to learn a specific prop, the more likely you will be to practice and learn quickly.

Stick props like dragon staff, contact staff, or spin staff can be easier for some since its a more static prop that you can hold onto. Rope props like poi and rope dart require more plane control at the beginning but are also much easier to travel with. Others like flow stars and pixel whips have their own kind of movements that don’t really fall into the other two categories we mentioned. But they’re super popular for ravers and festival goers!

We have a feeling you’ll end up owning more than one type of prop though so regardless of what your friend thinks is the best flow toy to start with, just get whatever you’re most excited to learn!

Fire dancing carries some inherent risks, but if you follow all of our fire safety instructions the risks are very avoidable. We recommend feeling super comfortable with a flow toy before lighting it on fire for the first time.

If you’re new to flow arts, we also recommend getting a daytime practice prop (or even LED prop) since you might be dropping your flow toy a lot when you’re first learning. The Kevlar on fire props can deteriorate much more quickly from repetitive drops, so practice props are ideal to keep them safe.

We have fire, LED, and daytime versions of most of our main props. Even if you can only afford one version and end up starting with a fire prop, they can be protected with wick covers. No matter what type you have, we recommend practicing on soft ground like grass to protect them as much as possible.

After you read the fire safety guide linked above and before lighting up you fire tool, please also read through our safety disclaimer.

Rope darts are a unique and challenging flow prop that consist of a weighted dart head attached to a long leash. They combine elements of shooting, swinging, and wrapping, creating dynamic and visually impressive movements. They are ancient martial arts weapons, although nowadays they are heavily used as dance and meditative tools in the performance and flow arts world.

Rope darts require a good deal of practice and coordination to master, but they offer a rewarding challenge for those seeking to expand their flow arts repertoire. They are generally sized by adding your wingspan length to the length of your shoulder to the ground. Heavier darts are easier to control and popular in the dance and performance scene, whereas lighter darts require more precision and are popular for martial arts styles of flow.
