The Shuriken Fire Head is the largest fire head we carry, built for performers who want a massive flame rather than maximum burn time. Its distinctive multi-point construction exposes a large amount of Kevlar to the air, increasing airflow around the wick and producing significantly larger fire effects than more compact fire head designs.
Each Shuriken is constructed from folded pure Kevlar that is stapled into individual blades and layered together to create 5, 6, or 7 blade configurations. More blades add additional wick, weight, and flame potential, allowing you to choose just how unreasonable you’d like your fire prop to become.
Built for Big Fire
The Shuriken is designed as a performance fire head rather than an endurance wick. Its multi-point shape increases the amount of exposed wick surface and allows air to move between the individual blades, helping create the large flames that make this design stand out.
The tradeoff is burn time. When fueled with white gas, Shuriken Fire Heads generally burn for less time than more traditional fire heads of comparable weight. If your priority is maximum stage presence and a dramatic fire effect rather than squeezing every possible minute out of a burn, that’s exactly the point.
Choose Your Shuriken
Shuriken Fire Heads are available with 5, 6, or 7 Kevlar blades. Increasing the number of blades increases the amount of wick and the unfueled weight of the head, creating progressively larger and heavier configurations.
- 5 Blade: The lightest Shuriken configuration while retaining the distinctive high-airflow design.
- 6 Blade: A middle-ground option with additional wick and weight.
- 7 Blade: The largest and heaviest configuration for performers prioritizing maximum fire presence.
Rope Dart, Poi & Other Tethered Fire Props
The Shuriken Fire Head is used on our Shuriken Fire Dart and can also be incorporated into compatible fire poi, puppyhammer, meteor, meteor hammer, and other rope-based or tethered fire prop setups.
Because these heads are considerably larger and heavier than many conventional fire heads, make sure the remainder of your prop, attachment hardware, tether, and handling setup are appropriate for the size and weight of the Shuriken configuration you choose.
Burn Time & Wick Life
Shuriken Fire Heads are not recommended for burns longer than approximately 3 minutes. Extended burns expose the Kevlar to additional heat and accelerate wick degradation, particularly with a design that intentionally produces such a large flame.
These heads also tend to have a shorter service life than smaller, more conservative fire wick designs. That is the tradeoff for putting this much exposed Kevlar into a high-airflow configuration.
We recommend using white gas rather than oil-based fuels with Shuriken Fire Heads. Oil-based fuels can contribute to faster degradation of the Kevlar in this application and are not recommended for these heads.
For information on extending the usable life of your wick, read our Fire Prop Maintenance Guide.
Fire Performance & Safety
The Shuriken produces a substantially larger fire effect than many conventional fire heads and should be treated accordingly. These heads are intended for experienced fire performers with the control, clearance, and safety procedures appropriate for large moving flames.
Always practice new configurations without fire first, particularly when changing to a heavier Shuriken size. Before performing, review our Fire Safety for Flow Arts guide and Safety Disclaimer.
