UltraPoi Helix Poi combine the familiar shape of glow stick poi with customizable LED colors and patterns, protective silicone cases, and an adjustable tether system. They are lightweight enough for everyday spinning while offering plenty of visual customization for performances, festivals, and nighttime flow.

Choose between Standard Helix Poi with non-LED UltraGrip handles, Helix Poi with rechargeable UltraKnob LED handles, or Double Helix Poi with illuminated Helix heads at both ends of each tether.

Customizable Helix LED Glow Sticks

Each Helix head uses an UltraLight LED glow stick protected by a soft Helix case. The light is divided into two independently controlled halves, allowing you to select different colors and effects on opposite sides of the same glow stick.

Choose from 15 colors, multiple color modes, and flashing patterns to build anything from simple solid-color trails to much busier combinations. Controls are built directly into the sides of each glow stick and remain accessible through the protective case.

Choose Your Handle Style

The Helix is available in three configurations depending on how much light and handle weight you want in your setup:

  • Standard Helix: Uses lightweight silicone UltraGrip handles for a comfortable, non-illuminated grip.
  • Helix with UltraKnobs: Replaces the standard handles with rechargeable UltraKnob LED Handles, adding light to the handle end while maintaining a compact knob shape for tosses and catches.
  • Double Helix: Replaces the handles with additional Helix LED glow sticks, creating a balanced illuminated setup with a Helix head at both ends of each tether. This configuration can also lend itself to nunchaku-inspired movement and symmetrical toss patterns.

Soft Protective Helix Cases

Each UltraLight sits inside a soft Helix case designed to protect the LED glow stick from the drops and impacts that inevitably come with learning new tricks. The fitted cases keep the lights secure while leaving their controls accessible.

This combination makes the Helix approachable for newer poi spinners while still providing the tether setup and lighting options experienced spinners expect from a performance-oriented LED poi set.

Adjustable Tether Length

The included UltraLeash tether system can be adjusted to suit your preferred poi length. Once you find your ideal length, excess cord can be trimmed for a cleaner setup.

Replaceable AAA Batteries

Each Helix UltraLight LED glow stick is powered by a single AAA battery, allowing you to use either disposable or rechargeable AAA batteries rather than waiting for the poi heads themselves to recharge. UltraPoi rates the UltraLights for approximately 12 hours of use per battery.

AAA batteries are not included. UltraKnob LED handles, when selected, use their own included rechargeable battery.

Flow toys are props and tools used in flow arts, which is a movement based art-form that involves object manipulation. Flow props are extensions of your body and tools for self expression.

Despite being called “toys”, flow toys are meant for everyone and you will find that a majority of flow artists are actually adults! Contemporary flow arts include many modalities like dance, martial arts, or just “free-flow.”

The best flow toy to start with is the one that you’re most excited to learn. Although some props might be more difficult to learn than others, this differs greatly from one person to another. We found that the more excited you are to learn a specific prop, the more likely you will be to practice and learn quickly.

Stick props like dragon staff, contact staff, or spin staff can be easier for some since its a more static prop that you can hold onto. Rope props like poi and rope dart require more plane control at the beginning but are also much easier to travel with. Others like flow stars and pixel whips have their own kind of movements that don’t really fall into the other two categories we mentioned. But they’re super popular for ravers and festival goers!

We have a feeling you’ll end up owning more than one type of prop though so regardless of what your friend thinks is the best flow toy to start with, just get whatever you’re most excited to learn!

Fire dancing carries some inherent risks, but if you follow all of our fire safety instructions the risks are very avoidable. We recommend feeling super comfortable with a flow toy before lighting it on fire for the first time.

If you’re new to flow arts, we also recommend getting a daytime practice prop (or even LED prop) since you might be dropping your flow toy a lot when you’re first learning. The Kevlar on fire props can deteriorate much more quickly from repetitive drops, so practice props are ideal to keep them safe.

We have fire, LED, and daytime versions of most of our main props. Even if you can only afford one version and end up starting with a fire prop, they can be protected with wick covers. No matter what type you have, we recommend practicing on soft ground like grass to protect them as much as possible.

Poi are one of the most popular flow props in the world, consisting of weights attached to tethers that are swung rhythmically. They are usually used in sets of two, although three or more can be used for more complex spinning or juggling styles of poi flow.
