Keeping your LED props in tip-top shape is crucial for safety, performance, and getting the most out of your flow toy’s lifespan. Let’s dive into some essential maintenance practices to ensure your tools stay shining bright!
General Care:
- Be gentle: Although most LED props are built to withstand regular usage and flow, it’s best to avoid dropping, throwing, or stepping on them. Practice on soft ground when possible such as grass or carpet. Treat them with care like the extensions of yourself they are!
- Cleanliness is key: Dust and dirt buildup can affect electronics, grips, and connections. Wipe down your props with rubbing alcohol as needed. Avoid harsh chemicals or submerging electronics in water.
- Safe storage: When not in use, store your props in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. UX exposure can expedite plastic deterioration. A padded case or bag is ideal for extra protection.
Battery Safety:
- Battery Type: Use the exact battery type and size recommended by your prop’s manufacturer. Don’t mix and match!
- Keep it charged: Regularly recharge your batteries using the designated charger. Avoid letting them completely drain, as this can lower their lifespan. Never leave them on the charger unattended. Don’t charge batteries near flammable items such as carpet or wood.
- Extreme Temperatures: Don’t expose your batteries to extreme heat or cold, including hot cars.
- Recycle responsibly: When your batteries reach the end of their life, dispose of them properly at designated recycling centers. Don’t throw them in the trash! (Only applicable to removable batteries).
- Regular Inspection: Li-ion batteries, commonly used in LED props, can be a fire hazard if damaged. If you see any leaking, bulging, or discoloration, discontinue use immediately, dispose of them properly, and reach out to the manufacturer.
- Foreign Travel: If you’re traveling internationally, make sure you’re using the correct voltage converter or plug adapter. Many modern USB chargers automatically support 100 to 240V, but not all chargers and outlets do. Using an incompatible charger or the wrong voltage can permanently damage your batteries or electronics. When in doubt, check the charger’s input voltage before plugging it into a foreign outlet.

Every prop is unique! Always refer to the specific care instructions and warnings provided by your prop’s manufacturer. They’ll have the best insights on maintaining your particular LED flow toy.
Pixel LED props tend to be MUCH MORE FRAGILE than normal RBG flow toys. These are the ones that can create complex imagery and programming. Definitely follow manufacturer instructions on how to best care for these. We highly recommend using practice props when learning new tricks before doing them with pixel props so you don’t accidentally break them.
