UltraPoi Vortex Poi give you two distinctly different LED poi setups in one system. Spin the illuminated Vortex heads on the included UltraLeash for traditional leash poi, or place the same heads inside the included UltraSocks to transform them into LED sock poi.

The Vortex heads are intentionally substantial, producing strong momentum for stalls and other weight-driven movements. Combined with bright customizable LEDs and your choice of handle configuration, these are a versatile option for intermediate and advanced spinners who like their poi on the heavier side.

Leash Poi & LED Sock Poi in One

Each Vortex LED head sits inside a protective silicone case with an attachment point for the UltraLeash. In this configuration, you get a traditional tethered poi setup with a compact illuminated head.

When you want a completely different feel and visual effect, the same Vortex heads can be secured inside the included UltraSocks. The powerful LEDs illuminate the fabric as you spin, creating a much larger visual presence without requiring a second set of lights.

Customizable LED Effects

Each Vortex head features two independently controlled LED sections, allowing different colors or effects to be displayed from opposite sides of the same poi head.

Choose from 15 colors, 6 color modes, and 12 flashing patterns. The controls are built directly into the lights, so colors and patterns can be changed without an app or external programming.

Heavy Poi with Strong Momentum

Vortex heads are heavier than many conventional LED poi heads. That extra weight produces substantial momentum, which can feel particularly satisfying for stalls and other movements that benefit from a more pronounced pendulum effect.

That weight also means they may not be the best choice for every beginner. Newer spinners who prefer something lighter may find Helix Poi easier to manage, while spinners looking specifically for spherical contact-style heads may prefer OrbPoi.

Choose Your Handle Setup

Vortex Poi can be configured with different handle options depending on the style and amount of illumination you want at the handle end.

  • UltraGrip Handles: Lightweight non-LED silicone knob handles for a simple, comfortable setup.
  • UltraKnob LED Handles: Compact rechargeable LED knob handles that add another point of light while remaining suitable for handle tosses and catches.
  • Helix LED Handles: Longer illuminated glow stick handles that substantially increase the visual footprint of the poi.

Replaceable AAA Batteries

Each Vortex head uses two AAA batteries. Replaceable batteries make it possible to swap in a fresh set instead of waiting for the poi heads themselves to recharge, and rechargeable AAA batteries can also be used if you prefer a reusable setup.

AAA batteries are not included with the standard configuration.

Adjustable Tether Length

The included UltraLeash allows you to adjust the tether length to suit your height and spinning preference. Once you have settled on your preferred length, excess tether can be trimmed for a cleaner setup.

Flow toys are props and tools used in flow arts, which is a movement based art-form that involves object manipulation. Flow props are extensions of your body and tools for self expression.

Despite being called “toys”, flow toys are meant for everyone and you will find that a majority of flow artists are actually adults! Contemporary flow arts include many modalities like dance, martial arts, or just “free-flow.”

The best flow toy to start with is the one that you’re most excited to learn. Although some props might be more difficult to learn than others, this differs greatly from one person to another. We found that the more excited you are to learn a specific prop, the more likely you will be to practice and learn quickly.

Stick props like dragon staff, contact staff, or spin staff can be easier for some since its a more static prop that you can hold onto. Rope props like poi and rope dart require more plane control at the beginning but are also much easier to travel with. Others like flow stars and pixel whips have their own kind of movements that don’t really fall into the other two categories we mentioned. But they’re super popular for ravers and festival goers!

We have a feeling you’ll end up owning more than one type of prop though so regardless of what your friend thinks is the best flow toy to start with, just get whatever you’re most excited to learn!

Fire dancing carries some inherent risks, but if you follow all of our fire safety instructions the risks are very avoidable. We recommend feeling super comfortable with a flow toy before lighting it on fire for the first time.

If you’re new to flow arts, we also recommend getting a daytime practice prop (or even LED prop) since you might be dropping your flow toy a lot when you’re first learning. The Kevlar on fire props can deteriorate much more quickly from repetitive drops, so practice props are ideal to keep them safe.

We have fire, LED, and daytime versions of most of our main props. Even if you can only afford one version and end up starting with a fire prop, they can be protected with wick covers. No matter what type you have, we recommend practicing on soft ground like grass to protect them as much as possible.
