Why settle for one way to play with fire? The Shuriken Fire Poi & Rope Dart Combo Kit combines two oversized, multi-blade Kevlar heads with interchangeable poi and rope dart leashes, giving you two fire spinning disciplines in one customizable setup.

The Shuriken is built for maximum visual impact. Its distinctive multi-point design exposes more wick surface area to the surrounding air, creating enormous flames that stand out during performances. Unlike compact fire heads designed for longer burns, the Shuriken prioritizes flame size over burn duration.

Each kit includes two matching Shuriken Fire Heads, a pair of Technora poi tethers, and a rope dart leash. Quick-link connections allow you to detach the heads and switch between configurations without purchasing additional components.

Choose between 5, 6, or 7 blade heads, select your preferred Technora poi tether thickness and length, and customize your rope dart leash with either Technora or Dyneema. Optional PX3 Poi Knobs complete the setup.

Two Fire Props in One Kit

The interchangeable design allows you to switch between traditional fire poi and fire rope dart spinning using the same Shuriken heads.

  • Fire Poi Mode: Attach both Shuriken heads to the Technora poi tethers using their quick links. Enjoy a substantial pair of fire poi designed for dramatic flames, traditional spinning, tosses, stalls, and other poi techniques.
  • Fire Rope Dart Mode: Detach one Shuriken head from its poi tether and attach it to the rope dart leash. The longer rope allows for wraps, releases, throws, and martial arts-inspired rope dart movements.

The kit includes two fire heads, but only one is used in rope dart mode. The second head can remain attached to its poi tether or be stored until you’re ready to switch configurations.

Designed for Maximum Flame Size

The Shuriken’s distinctive multi-blade construction sets it apart from traditional fire heads. Instead of concentrating the wick into a compact knot or bundle, multiple Kevlar blades extend outward from the center, exposing more wick material to the surrounding air.

This increased surface area and airflow help create larger, more dramatic flames, making the Shuriken particularly well suited for performers who prioritize visual impact.

  • Massive Flame Profile: The exposed blades increase airflow around the wick, helping produce larger flames.
  • High Surface Area: The multi-point construction exposes more Kevlar to oxygen for an intense fire effect.
  • Substantial Momentum: The oversized heads provide significant weight for poi spinning and rope dart techniques.
  • Three Blade Configurations: Choose between 5, 6, or 7 blades to match your preferred weight and visual profile.
  • 100% Kevlar Wick: Constructed using pure Kevlar wick without fiberglass blended into the fibers.

The tradeoff for these impressive flames is increased heat exposure. Shuriken heads are designed for short, high-impact performances rather than extended burns, and proper fuel selection is especially important for preserving the wick.

Choose Your Shuriken Heads

Each kit includes two matching Shuriken heads in your selected blade configuration. All three options measure approximately 6 inch (15.2 cm) across and 3 inch (7.6 cm) thick.

  • 5 Blade: 8.30 oz (235 g) per head. The lightest configuration, offering substantial flames with less weight than the larger versions.
  • 6 Blade: 9.70 oz (275 g) per head. A middle-ground option with additional wick material and spinning momentum.
  • 7 Blade: 11.10 oz (315 g) per head. The heaviest configuration, featuring the greatest number of exposed Kevlar blades.

All three configurations use the same performance-oriented construction and require careful fuel management and shorter burn durations.

Choose Your Fire Poi Tethers

The included fire poi tethers are made from Technora, a high-performance aramid fiber known for its strength, durability, and resistance to elevated temperatures.

  • Relaxed 5 mm Technora: A thinner, more flexible tether that moves freely and provides a soft, fluid spinning feel. Ideal for spinners who prefer natural rope movement with minimal structure.
  • Semi-Static 8 mm Technora: A thicker, firmer tether that maintains more of its shape during movement. The additional structure provides greater feedback and predictability during tosses, stalls, and other technical techniques.

Both tether options include removable quick links, allowing you to transfer the Shuriken heads between the poi and rope dart configurations. Direct-connect attachments are not available with this kit because the heads must remain removable.

Not sure which tether fits your style? Check out our Guide to Relaxed, Semi-Static, and Static Poi Tethers.

Choose Your Rope Dart Leash

The included rope dart leash measures approximately 10 ft 2 inch (310 cm) and is available in two materials. Both options use 3/16 inch (5 mm) rope and feature securely spliced connections, a swivel, a quick link, and an integrated hand loop.

  • Black Technora: A strong, heat-resistant aramid rope with a slightly textured feel that provides useful feedback during wraps and body movements. Technora gradually softens with use and offers greater resistance to accidental heat exposure, making it our recommended option for beginners and performers who prefer a more forgiving leash. The entire leash is made from Technora.
  • Black Dyneema with Technora Lead: An exceptionally smooth, lightweight rope that glides easily across the skin. Our Dyneema is completely uncoated, with no polyurethane coating or break-in period required. A heat-resistant Technora lead is spliced between the Dyneema and the connection hardware to provide additional protection near the fire head.

Important: Dyneema has a significantly lower melting temperature than Technora. Although the Technora lead provides additional protection near the flame, the Dyneema portion can still melt if exposed to fire or excessive heat. We generally recommend Technora for beginners and Dyneema for experienced rope dart artists with reliable rope control.

Swivel, Quick Links & Integrated Hand Loop

All three leashes feature removable quick links, allowing the Shuriken heads to be transferred between configurations.

The rope dart leash also includes a swivel to help prevent excessive rope twisting during rotations and technical movements.

At the opposite end, an integrated spliced loop creates a simple, secure handle. Pass the rope dart and remaining leash through the small loop, then pull it through to form a larger loop that fits around your entire hand.

This design eliminates the need for a separate handle while allowing you to shorten the effective rope length by tying additional loops near the handle end.

Optional Poi Knobs

Complete your fire poi setup with a pair of PX3 Poi Knobs, or select no knobs if you already have handles you prefer.

PX3 knobs provide a comfortable grip for traditional spinning while supporting tosses, catches, and other handle-based techniques. They’re available in multiple colors to match your setup.

Choosing Your Rope Lengths

For fire poi, we recommend starting with a tether length measured from your palm to your shoulder crease. This provides a comfortable, versatile length for most spinning styles, though personal preference may vary.

For more detailed sizing instructions, check out our What Length Should My Poi Be? Guide.

The rope dart leash measures approximately 10 ft 2 inch (310 cm). A common starting point for rope dart sizing is your wingspan plus the distance from your shoulder to the ground, measured across the complete setup.

If the supplied leash is longer than your preferred length, you can shorten the effective length by tying additional loops near the handle end.

Important Fuel & Burn Time Guidelines

The Shuriken is designed for short, high-impact fire performances. Its exposed wick construction is not intended for extended-duration burning.

Because the Shuriken’s blades expose a large amount of Kevlar to the surrounding air, they generate substantial flames and heat. Prolonged burning can cause the wick to overheat, accelerate Kevlar degradation, and significantly shorten the lifespan of the heads.

  • Recommended Fuel: White gas is our preferred fuel for the Shuriken because its relatively short burn duration is better suited to the exposed wick construction.
  • Alternative Fuels: If white gas is unavailable in your country or cannot reasonably be sourced, a suitable lighter fluid may be used as an alternative, provided it is compatible with your fire equipment and local safety requirements.
  • Avoid Oil-Based Fuels: We strongly discourage using oil-based fuels such as kerosene or lamp oil. Their prolonged burns can expose the Shuriken’s wick structure to excessive heat, causing accelerated degradation and potentially premature failure.
  • Maximum Burn Duration: When using an alternative fuel that burns longer than white gas, extinguish the Shuriken within 2 to 3 minutes. Never intentionally continue a burn beyond 3 minutes.
  • Extinguish Before Burnout: Regardless of fuel type, we recommend extinguishing the Shuriken before it burns out naturally. Even with white gas, this may mean putting it out after approximately 2.5 minutes or sooner, depending on the burn.
  • Monitor Wick Condition: If the flames diminish significantly, the wick begins glowing excessively, or the heads show signs of overheating, extinguish them immediately rather than waiting for the remaining fuel to burn away.

Important: The 3-minute limit is a maximum, not a recommended target. Actual safe burn duration depends on the fuel, environmental conditions, wick condition, and flame intensity. Extinguish the prop sooner whenever necessary.

Due to their exposed wick construction and intense flames, Shuriken heads will generally have a shorter service life than more compact fire heads. Proper fuel selection, shorter burns, and regular maintenance are essential for preserving the wick.

Fire Safety & Maintenance

The Shuriken produces particularly large flames and should only be used by performers with appropriate fire safety training, equipment, and adequate spinning space. Its exposed blades are more vulnerable to prolonged heat exposure than traditional compact fire heads.

  • Fuel Selection: White gas is recommended. Avoid oil-based fuels, which can cause prolonged burns and accelerate wick degradation.
  • Burn Duration: Extinguish the Shuriken before it burns out naturally. Never exceed 3 minutes of continuous burning.
  • Prevent Overheating: Extinguish immediately if the wick begins glowing excessively, shows signs of heat damage, or produces unusually intense localized heat.
  • Fuel the Wick Only: Never soak Technora or Dyneema leashes in fuel.
  • Remove Excess Fuel: Properly remove excess fuel before lighting to reduce the risk of burning fuel being thrown during spinning.
  • Inspect the Blades: Check each wick blade for fraying, deterioration, loose construction, or other damage before every use.
  • Inspect the Leashes: Check the Technora and Dyneema ropes, splices, swivel, and quick links for wear or damage before every use.
  • Protect the Ropes: Keep all leashes away from direct flames, particularly Dyneema, which can melt under excessive heat.
  • Secure Connections: Ensure all quick links are fully closed and securely tightened before spinning.
  • Practice Unlit: Master new techniques without fire before attempting them with a burning Shuriken.
  • Use a Safety Spotter: Always have an appropriately trained safety person and suitable extinguishing equipment available during fire performances.

Flow toys are props and tools used in flow arts, which is a movement based art-form that involves object manipulation. Flow props are extensions of your body and tools for self expression.

Despite being called “toys”, flow toys are meant for everyone and you will find that a majority of flow artists are actually adults! Contemporary flow arts include many modalities like dance, martial arts, or just “free-flow.”

The best flow toy to start with is the one that you’re most excited to learn. Although some props might be more difficult to learn than others, this differs greatly from one person to another. We found that the more excited you are to learn a specific prop, the more likely you will be to practice and learn quickly.

Stick props like dragon staff, contact staff, or spin staff can be easier for some since its a more static prop that you can hold onto. Rope props like poi and rope dart require more plane control at the beginning but are also much easier to travel with. Others like flow stars and pixel whips have their own kind of movements that don’t really fall into the other two categories we mentioned. But they’re super popular for ravers and festival goers!

We have a feeling you’ll end up owning more than one type of prop though so regardless of what your friend thinks is the best flow toy to start with, just get whatever you’re most excited to learn!

Fire dancing carries some inherent risks, but if you follow all of our fire safety instructions the risks are very avoidable. We recommend feeling super comfortable with a flow toy before lighting it on fire for the first time.

If you’re new to flow arts, we also recommend getting a daytime practice prop (or even LED prop) since you might be dropping your flow toy a lot when you’re first learning. The Kevlar on fire props can deteriorate much more quickly from repetitive drops, so practice props are ideal to keep them safe.

We have fire, LED, and daytime versions of most of our main props. Even if you can only afford one version and end up starting with a fire prop, they can be protected with wick covers. No matter what type you have, we recommend practicing on soft ground like grass to protect them as much as possible.

After you read the fire safety guide linked above and before lighting up you fire tool, please also read through our safety disclaimer.

We ship our products Monday-Friday from Los Angeles, CA, USA. Many of our listed products are ready-to-ship unless we have to assemble them, which can add a day or two to process. That being said, we ship out orders in the order they are placed within 1-2 business days (with some exceptions like holiday seasons).

Once shipped, we use USPS for orders in the USA and usually UPS for all international orders. Ground shipping in the US usually takes about 3-5 business days from shipping date, while priority shipping can be between 1-3 business days from shipping date. These are estimations and not guarantees as USPS might have delays, but reach out to us if you are looking for more specific time frames!

We can’t promise any specific shipping timeframes for international delivery as customs can cause many unforeseen delays.

Of course! We’re just a text, email, or DM away from being able to answer any question you have. All of our contact details can be found here or you can scroll down to find the buttons in our footer. We’re active on social media too so we are pretty easy to get a hold of!

Poi are one of the most popular flow props in the world, consisting of weights attached to tethers that are swung rhythmically. They are usually used in sets of two, although three or more can be used for more complex spinning or juggling styles of poi flow. They come in a wide range of styles, from simple sock poi for beginners to elaborate fire and LED poi for experienced performers.

Poi spinning involves swinging the heads in various directions and timing, creating complex geometric shapes. The most common combinations are Same Direction Same Timing, Opposite Direction Same Timing, Same Direction Different Timing, Opposite Direction Different Timing.

Contact poi are a common style of poi nowadays, because the weighting allows for cleaner stalls and tosses. Other common types are glowstick style, snake poi, and stingers. Fabric poi are generally recommended for complete beginners because they don’t hurt as much when you hit yourself during the learning phase.
