Our Isis Fire Poi combine durable Kevlar heads, reliable burn times, and the smooth feel of Technora tethers in a versatile fire poi setup. Built around 100% Kevlar wick heads, these poi are suitable for a wide range of spinning styles, whether you’re performing on stage or preparing for your first fire spinning session.

Choose between 4 inch (100 mm) and 5 inch (127 mm) Kevlar heads, relaxed 5 mm or semi-static 8 mm Technora tethers, and your preferred connection style. With optional poi knobs, you can customize your setup to match your spinning style.

Choose Your Fire Poi Head Size

  • 4 inch (100 mm): A lighter Kevlar head weighing approximately 4.00 oz (113 g). Great for spinners who prefer quicker movements, easier direction changes, and a more maneuverable setup.
  • 5 inch (127 mm): A larger Kevlar head weighing approximately 5.00 oz (142 g). The additional Kevlar provides greater fuel capacity and the potential for longer burns, while the increased weight creates a more substantial spinning feel.

Both sizes feature durable Isis-style Kevlar construction designed for repeated fire spinning with proper care and maintenance.

Choose Your Tether

  • Relaxed 5 mm Technora: A softer, more flexible tether with a loose, fluid feel. Great for spinners who prefer natural rope movement without much added structure.
  • Semi-Static 8 mm Technora: A firmer tether that maintains more of its shape while retaining some flexibility. The added structure provides more feedback and predictability, particularly during tosses, stalls, and other technical movements.

Why Technora?

Technora is a high-performance aramid fiber known for its exceptional tensile strength, abrasion resistance, and heat resistance. It provides a durable, lightweight alternative to traditional metal chain tethers while offering a smoother feel during spinning.

Fire Safety & Maintenance

Technora is heat resistant, but it is not fireproof. Proper care is essential for maintaining the safety and longevity of your fire poi.

  • Never soak Technora tethers in fuel. Only the Kevlar wick heads should be fueled.
  • Avoid leaving burning poi stationary on the ground, as prolonged heat exposure can damage the tethers and surrounding materials.
  • Inspect your Kevlar heads, Technora tethers, and connection hardware before every use.
  • Replace any tether showing signs of fraying, excessive wear, heat damage, or compromised connections.
  • With proper care, Technora tethers can often outlast the Kevlar heads themselves.

Flow toys are props and tools used in flow arts, which is a movement based art-form that involves object manipulation. Flow props are extensions of your body and tools for self expression.

Despite being called “toys”, flow toys are meant for everyone and you will find that a majority of flow artists are actually adults! Contemporary flow arts include many modalities like dance, martial arts, or just “free-flow.”

The best flow toy to start with is the one that you’re most excited to learn. Although some props might be more difficult to learn than others, this differs greatly from one person to another. We found that the more excited you are to learn a specific prop, the more likely you will be to practice and learn quickly.

Stick props like dragon staff, contact staff, or spin staff can be easier for some since its a more static prop that you can hold onto. Rope props like poi and rope dart require more plane control at the beginning but are also much easier to travel with. Others like flow stars and pixel whips have their own kind of movements that don’t really fall into the other two categories we mentioned. But they’re super popular for ravers and festival goers!

We have a feeling you’ll end up owning more than one type of prop though so regardless of what your friend thinks is the best flow toy to start with, just get whatever you’re most excited to learn!

Fire dancing carries some inherent risks, but if you follow all of our fire safety instructions the risks are very avoidable. We recommend feeling super comfortable with a flow toy before lighting it on fire for the first time.

If you’re new to flow arts, we also recommend getting a daytime practice prop (or even LED prop) since you might be dropping your flow toy a lot when you’re first learning. The Kevlar on fire props can deteriorate much more quickly from repetitive drops, so practice props are ideal to keep them safe.

We have fire, LED, and daytime versions of most of our main props. Even if you can only afford one version and end up starting with a fire prop, they can be protected with wick covers. No matter what type you have, we recommend practicing on soft ground like grass to protect them as much as possible.

Poi are one of the most popular flow props in the world, consisting of weights attached to tethers that are swung rhythmically. They are usually used in sets of two, although three or more can be used for more complex spinning or juggling styles of poi flow. They come in a wide range of styles, from simple sock poi for beginners to elaborate fire and LED poi for experienced performers.

Poi spinning involves swinging the heads in various directions and timing, creating complex geometric shapes. The most common combinations are Same Direction Same Timing, Opposite Direction Same Timing, Same Direction Different Timing, Opposite Direction Different Timing.
