Two fire props, one versatile setup. The Monkey Fist Fire Poi & Rope Dart Combo Kit lets you switch between a pair of fire poi and a fire rope dart using the same Kevlar heads. Whether you’re spinning traditional poi patterns, exploring martial arts-inspired rope dart techniques, or incorporating both disciplines into your performances, this kit gives you more ways to play with fire without purchasing two completely separate setups.
Each kit includes two Monkey Fist Fire Kevlar Heads, a pair of Technora fire poi tethers, and a rope dart leash. All three leashes feature quick-link connections, allowing you to detach the heads and switch between configurations without replacing any components.
Choose your preferred fire head size, poi tether style, rope dart leash material, and optional poi knobs to build a setup that fits your flow.
Two Fire Props in One Kit
The interchangeable design makes it easy to switch between two different fire spinning disciplines.
- Fire Poi Mode: Attach both Monkey Fist Fire Kevlar Heads to the Technora poi tethers using their quick links. Enjoy a balanced pair of fire poi suitable for traditional spinning, tosses, stalls, and other poi techniques.
- Fire Rope Dart Mode: Detach one Monkey Fist head from its poi tether and connect it to the rope dart leash. The longer rope allows for wraps, releases, throws, and martial arts-inspired rope dart movements.
The kit includes two fire heads, so you can assemble either configuration without purchasing additional components. Only one head is used in rope dart mode.
Classic Monkey Fist Fire Heads
Monkey Fist heads feature tightly knotted, 100% Kevlar wick without fiberglass blended into the material. Their dense construction provides excellent fuel capacity, substantial flames, and impressive burn times.
- 3.15 inch (80 mm): Weighing approximately 5.60 oz (159 g) per head, this smaller Monkey Fist offers a balance of fuel capacity and maneuverability. Its substantial weight provides consistent spinning momentum while remaining more responsive than the larger option.
- 3.75 inch (95 mm): Weighing approximately 6.40 oz (181 g) per head, this larger Monkey Fist provides additional Kevlar for greater fuel capacity and potentially longer burns. The increased weight creates more momentum during swings, throws, and other spinning movements.
Both heads in the kit will be the same selected size.
Choose Your Fire Poi Tethers
The included fire poi tethers are made from heat-resistant Technora, a high-performance aramid fiber known for its strength, durability, and resistance to elevated temperatures.
- Relaxed 5 mm Technora: A thinner, more flexible tether that moves freely and provides a soft, fluid spinning feel. Great for spinners who prefer natural rope movement with minimal structure.
- Semi-Static 8 mm Technora: A thicker, firmer tether that maintains more of its shape during movement. The additional structure provides greater feedback and predictability during tosses, stalls, and other technical techniques.
Both tether options include quick links for easy head removal. Direct-connect attachments are not available with this kit because the heads must remain removable to switch between poi and rope dart configurations.
For a more detailed comparison, check out our Guide to Relaxed, Semi-Static, and Static Poi Tethers.
Choose Your Rope Dart Leash
The included rope dart leash measures approximately 10 ft 2 inch (310 cm) and is available in two materials. Both options use 3/16 inch (5 mm) rope and feature securely spliced connections, a swivel, a quick link, and an integrated hand loop.
- Black Technora: A heat-resistant aramid rope that is particularly well suited for beginners. Its excellent heat resistance makes it more forgiving of accidental tangles and brief exposure to elevated temperatures. Technora has a slightly textured feel and gradually softens with use. The leash uses Technora throughout its length.
- Black Dyneema: An exceptionally smooth, lightweight rope preferred by many intermediate and advanced rope dart artists. Our Dyneema is completely uncoated, with no polyurethane coating or break-in period required. A heat-resistant Technora lead is spliced between the Dyneema and the connection hardware to provide additional protection near the flame.
Important: Dyneema has a much lower melting temperature than Technora. Although the Technora lead provides additional protection near the fire head, the Dyneema portion can still melt if exposed to flames or excessive heat. We generally recommend Technora for beginners and Dyneema for more experienced rope dart artists who prioritize smoothness and have developed consistent rope control.
Swivel, Quick Links & Hand Loop
The rope dart leash features a swivel to help prevent excessive rope twisting during rotations, along with a removable quick link for attaching the fire head.
At the opposite end, an integrated spliced loop creates a simple, secure handle. Pass the rope dart and remaining leash through the small loop, then pull it through to form a larger loop that fits around your entire hand.
This design eliminates the need for a separate handle while allowing you to adjust the effective rope length by tying additional loops near the handle end.
Optional Poi Knobs
Complete your poi setup with a pair of PX3 Poi Knobs, or select no knobs if you already have handles you prefer.
PX3 knobs provide a comfortable grip for traditional poi spinning while supporting tosses, catches, and other handle-based techniques. They’re available in a variety of colors to match your setup.
Choosing Your Rope Lengths
For fire poi, we recommend starting with a tether length measured from your palm to your shoulder crease. This provides a comfortable, versatile length for most spinning styles, though personal preference may vary. For more detailed sizing instructions, check out our What Length Should My Poi Be? Guide.
The rope dart leash measures approximately 10 ft 2 inch (310 cm). A common starting point for rope dart sizing is your wingspan plus the distance from your shoulder to the ground, measured across the complete setup. If the supplied leash is longer than your preferred length, you can shorten the effective length by tying additional loops near the handle end.

Fire Safety & Maintenance
Fire poi and rope dart spinning involve inherent risks and require proper training, safety equipment, and precautions. Rope dart techniques introduce additional hazards due to the length of the rope and the potential for wraps and tangles.
- Never soak Technora or Dyneema ropes in fuel. Only the Kevlar wick heads should be fueled.
- Keep all tethers away from direct flames whenever possible, especially when using Dyneema.
- Inspect your Kevlar heads, ropes, splices, swivels, and quick links before every use.
- Replace any rope showing signs of fraying, melting, heat damage, or compromised connections.
- Ensure all quick links are fully closed and securely tightened before spinning.
- Always practice new techniques with unlit equipment before attempting them with fire.
