Can’t decide between fire poi and rope dart? Why not both? The Isis Fire Poi & Rope Dart Combo Kit uses the same pair of 100% Kevlar Isis heads for two different fire props. Quicklink connections let you move the heads between your poi tethers and rope dart leash without needing a completely separate setup for each.

The poi are available with your choice of relaxed 5mm or semi-static 8mm Technora tethers, while the rope dart can be configured with either a 3/16″ Technora leash or Dyneema leash with a Technora lead. Pick the combination that matches how you like to flow and you’re good to go.

  • Relaxed 5mm Technora: A softer, more flexible tether with a loose and fluid feel. Great for spinners who prefer their poi to move naturally and don’t want much structure from the rope itself.
  • Semi-Static 8mm Technora: A firmer tether that holds its shape more than relaxed rope while still maintaining some flexibility. The added structure provides more feedback and predictability, especially during tosses, stalls, and other technical movements.

  • Technora: My personal favorite and the more forgiving option for fire rope dart. The entire leash is highly heat resistant, so you have less to worry about if the rope becomes tangled while spinning. Technora has a slightly more rough feel against the skin than Dyneema.
  • Dyneema with Technora Lead: Dyneema has a smoother, slicker feel that glides across the skin with less friction. A Technora lead separates the Dyneema from the fire head, but Dyneema itself can still melt if it becomes tangled close to the flame. Best for rope darters who are confident managing their leash while spinning fire. Favored by many intermediate and advanced rope dart artists.

  • No Hot Metal Tethers: Replacing traditional metal chains with Technora reduces one of the more unpleasant ways to get burned while spinning fire.

Flow toys are props and tools used in flow arts, which is a movement based art-form that involves object manipulation. Flow props are extensions of your body and tools for self expression.

Despite being called “toys”, flow toys are meant for everyone and you will find that a majority of flow artists are actually adults! Contemporary flow arts include many modalities like dance, martial arts, or just “free-flow.”

The best flow toy to start with is the one that you’re most excited to learn. Although some props might be more difficult to learn than others, this differs greatly from one person to another. We found that the more excited you are to learn a specific prop, the more likely you will be to practice and learn quickly.

Stick props like dragon staff, contact staff, or spin staff can be easier for some since its a more static prop that you can hold onto. Rope props like poi and rope dart require more plane control at the beginning but are also much easier to travel with. Others like flow stars and pixel whips have their own kind of movements that don’t really fall into the other two categories we mentioned. But they’re super popular for ravers and festival goers!

We have a feeling you’ll end up owning more than one type of prop though so regardless of what your friend thinks is the best flow toy to start with, just get whatever you’re most excited to learn!

Fire dancing carries some inherent risks, but if you follow all of our fire safety instructions the risks are very avoidable. We recommend feeling super comfortable with a flow toy before lighting it on fire for the first time.

If you’re new to flow arts, we also recommend getting a daytime practice prop (or even LED prop) since you might be dropping your flow toy a lot when you’re first learning. The Kevlar on fire props can deteriorate much more quickly from repetitive drops, so practice props are ideal to keep them safe.

We have fire, LED, and daytime versions of most of our main props. Even if you can only afford one version and end up starting with a fire prop, they can be protected with wick covers. No matter what type you have, we recommend practicing on soft ground like grass to protect them as much as possible.

We ship our products Monday-Friday from Los Angeles, CA, USA. Many of our listed products are ready-to-ship unless we have to assemble them, which can add a day or two to process. Ground shipping in the US usually takes about 3-5 business days from shipping date, while priority shipping can be between 1-3 business days from shipping date. Poi are one of the most popular flow props in the world, consisting of weights attached to tethers that are swung rhythmically. They are usually used in sets of two, although three or more can be used for more complex spinning or juggling styles of poi flow. They come in a wide range of styles, from simple sock poi for beginners to elaborate fire and LED poi for experienced performers.
