Shuriken Fire Rope Dart

The Shuriken Fire Rope Dart is built for performers who want maximum visual impact. Featuring a distinctive multi-blade design that maximizes exposed wick surface area and airflow, the Shuriken produces an enormous flame profile that makes traditional fire darts look downright modest.

Unlike endurance-focused fire heads, the Shuriken prioritizes flame size over burn duration. Its exposed Kevlar blades allow more air to circulate around the wick, creating larger flames and a more dramatic fire effect. The tradeoff is increased heat exposure, making proper fuel selection and shorter burns especially important for preserving the wick.

Available in three sizes with 5, 6, or 7 blades, the Shuriken can be paired with either a heat-resistant Technora leash or a smooth Dyneema leash with a Technora lead. Each configuration includes a swivel, removable quick link, and integrated hand loop.

Designed for Maximum Flame Size

The Shuriken’s distinctive construction sets it apart from traditional rope dart heads. Instead of concentrating the wick into a compact ball or knot, its multiple blades extend outward to expose more Kevlar to the surrounding air.

This design creates several performance advantages:

The Shuriken is particularly well suited for experienced fire performers who prioritize large flames and visual impact over extended burn times.

Choose Your Shuriken Head

All three Shuriken configurations measure approximately 6 inch (15.2 cm) across and 3 inch (7.6 cm) thick. The number of blades determines the overall head weight and wick configuration.

• 5 Blade: 8.30 oz (235 g). The lightest Shuriken configuration, offering substantial flames with less weight than the larger versions.
• 6 Blade: 9.70 oz (275 g). A middle-ground option for performers who want additional wick material and spinning momentum.
• 7 Blade: 11.10 oz (315 g). The heaviest configuration, offering the most substantial head and greatest number of exposed wick blades.

All three options use the same distinctive multi-point construction and are intended for short, high-impact fire performances.

Choose Your Rope Dart Leash

Customize your Shuriken Fire Rope Dart with your choice of Technora or Dyneema. Both leashes use 3/16 inch (5 mm) rope and measure approximately 10 ft 2 inch (310 cm).

• Black Technora: A strong, heat-resistant aramid rope with a slightly textured feel that provides useful feedback during wraps and body movements. Technora gradually softens with use and offers greater resistance to accidental heat exposure, making it our recommended option for beginners and performers who prefer a more forgiving leash. The entire leash is made from Technora.
• Black Dyneema with Technora Lead: An exceptionally smooth, lightweight rope that glides easily across the skin. Our Dyneema is completely uncoated, with no polyurethane coating or break-in period required. A heat-resistant Technora lead is spliced between the Dyneema and the connection hardware to provide additional protection near the fire head.

Important: Dyneema has a significantly lower melting temperature than Technora. Although the Technora lead provides additional protection near the flame, the Dyneema portion can still melt if exposed to fire or excessive heat. We generally recommend Technora for beginners and Dyneema for experienced rope dart artists with reliable rope control.

Swivel, Quick Link & Integrated Hand Loop

Each Shuriken Fire Rope Dart includes a swivel and removable quick link between the leash and fire head.

• Swivel: Helps reduce excessive rope twisting during rotations and technical movements.
• Quick Link: Allows the Shuriken head to be detached or replaced without replacing the entire leash.
• Spliced Connections: Secure rope construction without relying on a simple knot at the hardware connection.
• Integrated Hand Loop: A spliced loop at the handle end allows you to create a secure loop around your entire hand without additional handle hardware.

To create the handle, pass the rope dart and remaining leash through the small spliced loop, then pull it through to form a larger loop that fits around your hand.

Choosing Your Rope Dart Length

The included leash measures approximately 10 ft 2 inch (310 cm), providing plenty of length for a variety of spinning styles and body proportions.

A common starting point for rope dart sizing is your wingspan plus the distance from your shoulder to the ground, measured across the complete setup. If the supplied leash is longer than your preferred length, you can shorten the effective length by tying additional loops near the handle end.

Important Fuel & Burn Time Guidelines

The Shuriken is a performance-oriented fire head designed for short burns. It is not intended for extended-duration fire spinning.

Because its blades expose a large amount of Kevlar to the surrounding air, the Shuriken generates substantial flames and heat. Prolonged burning can cause the wick to overheat, accelerate Kevlar degradation, and significantly shorten the lifespan of the head.

• Recommended Fuel: White gas is our preferred fuel for the Shuriken because its relatively short burn duration is better suited to the head’s performance-oriented construction.
• Alternative Fuels: If white gas is unavailable in your country or cannot reasonably be sourced, an appropriate lighter fluid may be used as an alternative, provided it is compatible with your fire equipment and local safety requirements.
• Avoid Oil-Based Fuels: We strongly discourage using oil-based fuels such as kerosene or lamp oil. Their prolonged burns can expose the Shuriken’s wick structure to excessive heat, causing accelerated degradation and potentially premature failure.
• Maximum Burn Duration: When using an alternative fuel that burns longer than white gas, extinguish the Shuriken within 2 to 3 minutes. Never intentionally continue a burn beyond 3 minutes.
• Extinguish Before Burnout: Regardless of fuel type, we recommend extinguishing the Shuriken before it burns out naturally. Even with white gas, this may mean putting it out after approximately 2.5 minutes or sooner, depending on the burn.
• Monitor Wick Condition: If the flames diminish significantly, the wick begins glowing excessively, or the head shows signs of overheating, extinguish it immediately rather than waiting for the fuel to burn away.

Important: The 3-minute limit is a maximum, not a recommended target. Actual safe burn duration depends on fuel, environmental conditions, wick condition, and flame intensity. Extinguish the prop sooner whenever necessary.

Due to its exposed wick construction and intense flames, the Shuriken will generally have a shorter service life than more compact fire heads. Proper fuel selection, shorter burns, and regular maintenance are essential for preserving the wick.

Fire Safety & Maintenance

The Shuriken produces particularly large flames and should only be used by performers with appropriate fire safety training, equipment, and adequate spinning space. Its exposed blades are more vulnerable to prolonged heat exposure than traditional compact fire heads.

• Fuel Selection: White gas is recommended. Avoid oil-based fuels, which can cause prolonged burns and accelerate wick degradation.
• Burn Duration: Extinguish the Shuriken before it burns out naturally. If using an alternative fuel, never exceed 3 minutes of continuous burning.
• Prevent Overheating: Extinguish immediately if the wick begins glowing excessively, shows signs of heat damage, or produces unusually intense localized heat.
• Fuel the Wick Only: Never soak Technora or Dyneema leashes in fuel.
• Remove Excess Fuel: Properly remove excess fuel before lighting to reduce the risk of burning fuel being thrown during spinning.
• Inspect the Blades: Check each wick blade for fraying, deterioration, loose construction, or other damage before every use.
• Inspect the Leash: Check the rope, splices, swivel, and quick link for wear or damage before every use.
• Protect the Rope: Keep all leashes away from direct flames, particularly Dyneema, which can melt under excessive heat.
• Secure Connections: Ensure the quick link is fully closed and securely tightened before spinning.
• Practice Unlit: Master new techniques without fire before attempting them with a burning Shuriken.
• Use a Safety Spotter: Always have an appropriately trained safety person and suitable extinguishing equipment available during fire performances.
