Keep the aftermath of your fire session contained with a simple drawstring Wick Cover. These fabric carrying bags slip over Kevlar wicks to help protect them during storage and transport while keeping soot and fuel residue away from your prop bag, car interior, and everything else you’d rather not slowly turn black.

With flat dimensions of approximately 14 x 6.25 inch (35.6 x 15.9 cm) and a maximum usable diameter of approximately 4 inch (10.2 cm), the covers work with a variety of fire props including contact and spin staff wicks, fire eating torches, and select palm torches.

For Staff Wicks

On most fire contact staffs and fire spin staffs, the cover can be pulled over the entire wick. Depending on the size and placement of your contact staff flowers, it may also extend over some or all of the flowers.

These are a particularly useful addition to a Fusion Collapsible Fire Contact Staff or Fusion Collapsible Fire Spin Staff when you want to store or transport the prop without exposed, sooty Kevlar rubbing against everything around it.

For Fire Eating Torches

Wick Covers can also be used with fire eating torches. The bag will generally cover the wick and most of the torch, with part of the handle extending out through the drawstring opening.

For props such as our Hollow Fire Eating Vapor Torch, this provides a simple way to cover the business end of the prop between uses.

For Select Palm Torches

Some palm torches with slimmer bases can fit completely inside the Wick Cover. Fit depends on the dimensions and construction of the individual torch, so wider palm torch designs may not fit completely inside.

Our Fire Palm Torches are another prop type where a wick cover can help contain soot during storage and transport.

Keep the Soot Where It Belongs

Kevlar fire props inevitably collect soot with use. Covering the wick before putting the prop into your vehicle or gear bag helps keep that residue contained rather than transferring it onto upholstery, clothing, other props, and whatever unfortunate object happens to be sitting next to it.

The drawstring closure allows the opening to cinch around the prop while also making the cover quick to remove when it’s time to perform.

Flow toys are props and tools used in flow arts, which is a movement based art-form that involves object manipulation. Flow props are extensions of your body and tools for self expression.

Despite being called “toys”, flow toys are meant for everyone and you will find that a majority of flow artists are actually adults! Contemporary flow arts include many modalities like dance, martial arts, or just “free-flow.”

The best flow toy to start with is the one that you’re most excited to learn. Although some props might be more difficult to learn than others, this differs greatly from one person to another. We found that the more excited you are to learn a specific prop, the more likely you will be to practice and learn quickly.

Stick props like dragon staff, contact staff, or spin staff can be easier for some since its a more static prop that you can hold onto. Rope props like poi and rope dart require more plane control at the beginning but are also much easier to travel with. Others like flow stars and pixel whips have their own kind of movements that don’t really fall into the other two categories we mentioned. But they’re super popular for ravers and festival goers!

We have a feeling you’ll end up owning more than one type of prop though so regardless of what your friend thinks is the best flow toy to start with, just get whatever you’re most excited to learn!

Fire dancing carries some inherent risks, but if you follow all of our fire safety instructions the risks are very avoidable. We recommend feeling super comfortable with a flow toy before lighting it on fire for the first time.

If you’re new to flow arts, we also recommend getting a daytime practice prop (or even LED prop) since you might be dropping your flow toy a lot when you’re first learning. The Kevlar on fire props can deteriorate much more quickly from repetitive drops, so practice props are ideal to keep them safe.

We have fire, LED, and daytime versions of most of our main props. Even if you can only afford one version and end up starting with a fire prop, they can be protected with wick covers. No matter what type you have, we recommend practicing on soft ground like grass to protect them as much as possible.

Stick props such as dragon, contact, double, and spin staffs, levi-wands, and devil sticks generally need to be regripped over their lifetime. Some of the most common grips are silicone and EPDM. Staff flowers are also used to slow down the rotational speed and add weight to the staff ends, which is very useful for contact manipulation.
