Silicone Grip Tubing provides a high-traction, continuous grip surface for dragon staffs, contact staffs, and other compatible flow props. Designed to stretch over 7/8 inch OD (22 mm OD) staff tubing, it creates a clean grip surface without the overlapping edges found with many wrapped grip materials.

The silicone has a naturally tacky feel that provides excellent grip during staff manipulation while remaining relatively easy to clean. This tubing is compatible with Threeworlds Fusion staffs as well as many 7/8 inch (22 mm) staffs from brands such as Gora, Dark Monk, and Ninja Pyrate.

Staff Compatibility & Sizing

This silicone tubing is designed for staff and stick cores with a 7/8 inch (22 mm) outside diameter. The silicone tubing itself measures 7/8 inch OD x 3/4 inch ID (22 mm OD x 19 mm ID) before installation.

Please confirm that your staff has a 7/8 inch (22 mm) outside diameter before ordering.

  • Most dragon and contact staffs: Approximately 4 ft (1.22 m) of grip is generally sufficient
  • Longer staffs: Approximately 4.5 to 5 ft (1.37 to 1.52 m) may be required

The amount of grip you need ultimately depends on your staff length and how much of the staff you prefer to cover.

Grip & Maintenance

One of the advantages of silicone tubing is how easily its grip can be refreshed. As dust, dirt, and oils accumulate on the surface, the silicone can gradually feel less tacky. Cleaning it with soapy water or rubbing alcohol helps remove this buildup and restore its grip.

Silicone can become more slippery when wet, so it may not be the ideal choice if you regularly train in rain, high humidity, or other conditions where moisture is a concern. For those environments, EPDM Grip, Goat Grip, or F-Grip may be better alternatives.

How to Install Silicone Grip Tubing

Silicone tubing fits tightly around the staff core, so installation requires lubrication or compressed air to help slide the tubing into position.

  1. Prepare the Staff: Remove any existing grip and thoroughly clean the staff. Remove any remaining tape or adhesive residue. If necessary, lightly sand stubborn residue to leave a smooth surface.
  2. Lubricate: Lightly apply a mixture of water and a very small amount of dish soap to the staff and inside of the silicone tubing. This reduces friction and makes the tubing easier to slide into position.
  3. Manual Installation: Work the silicone tubing gradually onto the staff until it reaches the desired position. This can take some effort because of the tight fit.

Air Compressor Installation

An air compressor can make installation considerably faster by expanding the silicone tubing slightly while it is being pushed onto the staff.

  1. Plug one end of the staff so air cannot escape through the opposite side.
  2. Attach the silicone tubing to the air compressor nozzle and secure it with a zip tie.
  3. Apply air while gradually sliding the tubing onto the staff. A small amount of water can also be used as additional lubrication if needed.
  4. Secure the staff before applying pressure so it cannot move or launch if the tubing or compressor nozzle slips.

Once installed, allow the tubing and staff to dry completely before use so any remaining installation lubricant does not reduce the grip.

Please note: This listing is for silicone grip tubing only. Staffs and other components are not included.

Flow toys are props and tools used in flow arts, which is a movement based art-form that involves object manipulation. Flow props are extensions of your body and tools for self expression.

Despite being called “toys”, flow toys are meant for everyone and you will find that a majority of flow artists are actually adults! Contemporary flow arts include many modalities like dance, martial arts, or just “free-flow.”

The best flow toy to start with is the one that you’re most excited to learn. Although some props might be more difficult to learn than others, this differs greatly from one person to another. We found that the more excited you are to learn a specific prop, the more likely you will be to practice and learn quickly.

Stick props like dragon staff, contact staff, or spin staff can be easier for some since its a more static prop that you can hold onto. Rope props like poi and rope dart require more plane control at the beginning but are also much easier to travel with. Others like flow stars and pixel whips have their own kind of movements that don’t really fall into the other two categories we mentioned. But they’re super popular for ravers and festival goers!

We have a feeling you’ll end up owning more than one type of prop though so regardless of what your friend thinks is the best flow toy to start with, just get whatever you’re most excited to learn!

Fire dancing carries some inherent risks, but if you follow all of our fire safety instructions the risks are very avoidable. We recommend feeling super comfortable with a flow toy before lighting it on fire for the first time.

If you’re new to flow arts, we also recommend getting a daytime practice prop (or even LED prop) since you might be dropping your flow toy a lot when you’re first learning. The Kevlar on fire props can deteriorate much more quickly from repetitive drops, so practice props are ideal to keep them safe.

We have fire, LED, and daytime versions of most of our main props. Even if you can only afford one version and end up starting with a fire prop, they can be protected with wick covers. No matter what type you have, we recommend practicing on soft ground like grass to protect them as much as possible.

After you read the fire safety guide linked above and before lighting up you fire tool, please also read through our safety disclaimer.

We ship our products Monday-Friday from Los Angeles, CA, USA. Many of our listed products are ready-to-ship unless we have to assemble them, which can add a day or two to process. That being said, we ship out orders in the order they are placed within 1-2 business days (with some exceptions like holiday seasons).

Once shipped, we use USPS for orders in the USA and usually UPS for all international orders. Ground shipping in the US usually takes about 3-5 business days from shipping date, while priority shipping can be between 1-3 business days from shipping date. These are estimations and not guarantees as USPS might have delays, but reach out to us if you are looking for more specific time frames!

We can’t promise any specific shipping timeframes for international delivery as customs can cause many unforeseen delays.

Of course! We’re just a text, email, or DM away from being able to answer any question you have. All of our contact details can be found here or you can scroll down to find the buttons in our footer. We’re active on social media too so we are pretty easy to get a hold of!

Stick props such as dragon, contact, double, and spin staffs, levi-wands, and devil sticks generally need to be regripped over their lifetime. Some of the most common grips are silicone and EPDM. Staff flowers are also used to slow down the rotational speed and add weight to the staff ends, which is very useful for contact manipulation. Silicone tape is also commonly used to seal the ends of the grips on stick props or for added safety near the wicks of fire props so that there is no exposed metals. Other accessories also include wick covers or carry bags for collapsible props (or any props up to 29″).
