The Isis Fire Rope Dart combines a durable Kevlar wick head with a high-performance rope leash for a versatile fire spinning experience. Available in two head sizes, it offers a balance of flame size, burn time, and maneuverability that makes it a great choice for beginners and experienced rope dart artists alike.

Compared to heavier designs like the Mega Isis or Shuriken Fire Darts, the Isis Fire Rope Dart offers a lighter, more responsive feel. This makes it particularly well suited for learning new techniques, practicing martial arts-inspired movements, and performing tricks that benefit from quicker changes in direction.

Choose between heat-resistant Technora and smooth, uncoated Dyneema to customize how your rope dart feels and handles.

Choose Your Fire Dart Head

  • 4 inch (100 mm) Isis Head: Weighing approximately 4.00 oz (113 g), this smaller Kevlar head provides a lighter, more maneuverable feel. A great option for beginners, technical movements, and martial arts-inspired rope dart flow.
  • 5 inch (125 mm) Isis Head: Weighing approximately 5.00 oz (142 g), this larger head provides additional Kevlar for greater fuel capacity and potentially longer burns. Its increased weight also creates more spinning momentum while remaining lighter than our larger fire dart designs.

Both options feature 100% Kevlar wick construction designed for repeated burns with proper fueling and maintenance.

Choose Your Rope Dart Leash

We offer two high-performance rope materials, each with distinct advantages depending on your experience and preferred spinning style.

  • Technora: A high-strength, heat-resistant aramid rope that is particularly well suited for beginners. Its excellent heat resistance makes it more forgiving of accidental tangles and brief exposure to elevated temperatures. Technora has a slightly more textured feel against the skin and gradually softens with use. The leash uses a continuous length of Technora from the hand loop to the dart-end hardware.
  • Dyneema: A lightweight, low-stretch rope with an exceptionally smooth feel against the skin. Many intermediate and advanced rope dart artists prefer Dyneema for its fluid movement during wraps, releases, and technical tricks. Our Dyneema is completely uncoated, with no polyurethane coating, so it feels smooth right out of the package without requiring a break-in period. A heat-resistant Technora lead is spliced between the Dyneema and the dart-end hardware to provide additional protection near the flame.

Important: Dyneema has a much lower melting temperature than Technora. Although the Technora lead provides protection near the fire head, the Dyneema portion can still melt if exposed to flames or excessive heat. We generally recommend Technora for beginners and Dyneema for more experienced rope dart artists who prioritize smoothness and have developed consistent rope control.

Swivel & Quick Link Connection

Each rope dart includes a swivel and quick-link connection between the leash and fire head.

  • Swivel: Helps prevent the rope from twisting excessively during rotations and other spinning movements.
  • Quick Link: Allows the fire dart head to be detached or replaced without replacing the entire leash.

The connection hardware is securely attached to the rope using spliced construction rather than relying on a simple knot.

Adjustable Hand Loop

Instead of a separate handle, the rope dart features an integrated hand loop formed by splicing the end of the rope back into itself.

To create the handle, pass the rope dart and remaining leash through the small spliced loop, then pull it through to form a larger, secure loop that fits around your entire hand.

This simple design provides a dependable connection without adding unnecessary handle hardware. You can also shorten the effective rope length by tying additional loops near the handle end.

Choosing Your Rope Dart Length

The included leash measures approximately 10 ft 2 inch (310 cm), providing plenty of length for a variety of spinning styles and body proportions.

A common starting point for rope dart sizing is your wingspan plus the distance from your shoulder to the ground. This measurement should account for the complete setup, including the rope, fire head, and connection hardware.

If the supplied leash is longer than your preferred setup, you can shorten the effective length by tying additional loops near the handle end.

Fire Safety & Maintenance

Fire rope dart requires proper training, spatial awareness, and appropriate safety equipment. Always inspect your Kevlar head, rope leash, splices, swivel, and quick link before use.

  • Never soak the rope leash in fuel. Only the Kevlar wick head should be fueled.
  • Keep the leash away from direct flames whenever possible, especially when using Dyneema.
  • Avoid leaving the burning dart stationary on the ground, as concentrated heat can damage the wick, rope, and surrounding surfaces.
  • Replace any rope showing signs of fraying, melting, heat damage, or compromised splices.
  • Ensure the quick link is fully closed and securely tightened before spinning.

Before lighting up, please review our Safety Disclaimer, Fire Safety for Flow Arts Guide, and Fire Prop Maintenance Guide for important safety information and care instructions.

Variations

Fire Dart Head Size

  • 4 inch (100 mm): A lighter Isis Kevlar head weighing approximately 4.00 oz (113 g). Offers quicker acceleration, easier direction changes, and a more maneuverable feel. Recommended for beginners and spinners who prefer technical or martial arts-inspired movements.
  • 5 inch (127 mm): A larger Isis Kevlar head weighing approximately 5.00 oz (142 g). Provides greater fuel capacity, potentially longer burns, and more spinning momentum while remaining lighter than our larger fire dart designs.

Rope Material

  • Black Technora: A heat-resistant aramid rope with a slightly textured feel that gradually softens with use. Its superior heat resistance makes it more forgiving of accidental tangles and brief heat exposure, making it our recommended option for beginners. The leash uses Technora throughout its length.
  • Black Dyneema: An exceptionally smooth, lightweight rope preferred by many intermediate and advanced rope dart artists. Our Dyneema is uncoated, with no polyurethane coating or break-in period. A spliced Technora lead connects the Dyneema to the dart-end hardware for additional heat protection. The Dyneema portion remains susceptible to melting if exposed to flames.

Rope Length

Both leash options measure approximately 10 ft 2 inch (310 cm) and can be shortened to your preferred effective length by tying additional loops near the handle end.

A common starting point for rope dart sizing is your wingspan plus the distance from your shoulder to the ground, measured across the complete setup.

Handle

Integrated Hand Loop: Both rope options feature a spliced loop at the handle end. Pass the remaining rope through this loop to create a larger, secure loop that fits around your entire hand. No separate handle is required.

Flow toys are props and tools used in flow arts, which is a movement based art-form that involves object manipulation. Flow props are extensions of your body and tools for self expression.

Despite being called “toys”, flow toys are meant for everyone and you will find that a majority of flow artists are actually adults! Contemporary flow arts include many modalities like dance, martial arts, or just “free-flow.”

The best flow toy to start with is the one that you’re most excited to learn. Although some props might be more difficult to learn than others, this differs greatly from one person to another. We found that the more excited you are to learn a specific prop, the more likely you will be to practice and learn quickly.

Stick props like dragon staff, contact staff, or spin staff can be easier for some since its a more static prop that you can hold onto. Rope props like poi and rope dart require more plane control at the beginning but are also much easier to travel with. Others like flow stars and pixel whips have their own kind of movements that don’t really fall into the other two categories we mentioned. But they’re super popular for ravers and festival goers!

We have a feeling you’ll end up owning more than one type of prop though so regardless of what your friend thinks is the best flow toy to start with, just get whatever you’re most excited to learn!

Fire dancing carries some inherent risks, but if you follow all of our fire safety instructions the risks are very avoidable. We recommend feeling super comfortable with a flow toy before lighting it on fire for the first time.

If you’re new to flow arts, we also recommend getting a daytime practice prop (or even LED prop) since you might be dropping your flow toy a lot when you’re first learning. The Kevlar on fire props can deteriorate much more quickly from repetitive drops, so practice props are ideal to keep them safe.

We have fire, LED, and daytime versions of most of our main props. Even if you can only afford one version and end up starting with a fire prop, they can be protected with wick covers. No matter what type you have, we recommend practicing on soft ground like grass to protect them as much as possible.

After you read the fire safety guide linked above and before lighting up you fire tool, please also read through our safety disclaimer.

We ship our products Monday-Friday from Los Angeles, CA, USA. Many of our listed products are ready-to-ship unless we have to assemble them, which can add a day or two to process. That being said, we ship out orders in the order they are placed within 1-2 business days (with some exceptions like holiday seasons).

Once shipped, we use USPS for orders in the USA and usually UPS for all international orders. Ground shipping in the US usually takes about 3-5 business days from shipping date, while priority shipping can be between 1-3 business days from shipping date. Rope darts are a unique and challenging flow prop that consist of a weighted dart head attached to a long leash. They combine elements of shooting, swinging, and wrapping, creating dynamic and visually impressive movements. They are ancient martial arts weapons, although nowadays they are heavily used as dance and meditative tools in the performance and flow arts world.

Rope darts require a good deal of practice and coordination to master, but they offer a rewarding challenge for those seeking to expand their flow arts repertoire. They are generally sized by adding your wingspan length to the length of your shoulder to the ground. Heavier darts are easier to control and popular in the dance and performance scene, whereas lighter darts require more precision and are popular for martial arts styles of flow.
