Contact Staff Flowers are silicone accessories designed to add drag and weight toward the ends of contact staffs, devil sticks, and other compatible stick props. The added resistance slows rotation and creates a more controlled feel that can make body rolls and other contact techniques easier to manage.

Each flower is sold individually, with two typically needed for a staff or stick. Choose black for a classic look and fire-friendly setup or clear when you want light from an LED prop to shine through the silicone.

More Control for Contact Flow

Flowers increase air resistance as the staff rotates, helping slow down its movement and giving you more time to control body rolls and other contact techniques. At approximately 2 oz (57 g) each, they also add weight toward the ends of the prop, changing its weight distribution and rotational feel.

The petals can be trimmed to customize the amount of drag and weight. Longer flowers create more resistance, while trimming them down creates a faster, less pronounced effect.

Updated Pin-Locking Design for 7/8 Inch Staffs

The updated Contact Staff Flower features pre-punched holes and a locking pin designed around 7/8 inch (22 mm) staff tubing. As the flower wraps around the staff, the pin passes through the corresponding hole in each successive layer, helping keep the wrap aligned and securely positioned.

We still recommend finishing the installation with Silicone Tape for additional security. The pin helps keep the layers in position, while the finishing tape provides another layer of protection against the flower loosening during use.

Compatible with Other Staff Diameters

The flower itself is not limited to 7/8 inch (22 mm) staffs. It can be wrapped around other staff diameters as well. If the pre-punched holes do not align properly with your staff diameter, simply avoid using the holes and pin system and secure the flower tightly using silicone tape instead.

This makes the same flower usable across a wide range of contact staffs, devil sticks, and other compatible stick props without requiring a diameter-specific version.

Removable & Customizable

Flowers can be installed without permanently modifying the staff, making them easy to replace, remove, or adjust as your setup changes. Each untrimmed flower measures approximately 20 inch x 3.5 inch (50.8 x 8.9 cm), giving you plenty of material to wrap around the staff or trim to customize its weight and drag.

Black for Fire Props

Silicone is heat resistant and commonly used for flowers on fire contact staffs. We recommend black flowers for fire setups because soot and heat discoloration are less noticeable over time.

Maintain at least 4 inch (10.2 cm) of clearance between the flower and fire wick to reduce direct heat exposure. Proper spacing does not make silicone immune to heat damage, so inspect your flowers regularly and replace them if you notice significant deterioration.

For fire setups, review our Fire Safety for Flow Arts Guide, Fire Prop Maintenance Guide, and Safety Disclaimer before use.

Clear for LED Props

Clear silicone is a great choice for LED contact staffs and other illuminated stick props because light can pass through the flower rather than being blocked by an opaque material. This allows the flowers to become part of the illuminated profile of the prop while still providing the additional drag used for contact spinning.

Installation

  1. Position the flower where you want it installed on the staff.
  2. Apply a layer of Silicone Tape underneath the flower for additional grip.
  3. For 7/8 inch (22 mm) staffs, wrap the flower tightly while inserting the built-in pin through the corresponding pre-punched hole with each successive layer.
  4. For other staff diameters, ignore the pre-punched holes and wrap the flower tightly around the staff.
  5. Finish the installation with silicone tape around the base of the wrapped flower for additional security.
  6. Before spinning, firmly check that the flower cannot rotate, slide, or unwrap from the staff.

Flow toys are props and tools used in flow arts, which is a movement based art-form that involves object manipulation. Flow props are extensions of your body and tools for self expression.

Despite being called “toys”, flow toys are meant for everyone and you will find that a majority of flow artists are actually adults! Contemporary flow arts include many modalities like dance, martial arts, or just “free-flow.”

The best flow toy to start with is the one that you’re most excited to learn. Although some props might be more difficult to learn than others, this differs greatly from one person to another. We found that the more excited you are to learn a specific prop, the more likely you will be to practice and learn quickly.

Stick props like dragon staff, contact staff, or spin staff can be easier for some since its a more static prop that you can hold onto. Rope props like poi and rope dart require more plane control at the beginning but are also much easier to travel with. Others like flow stars and pixel whips have their own kind of movements that don’t really fall into the other two categories we mentioned. But they’re super popular for ravers and festival goers!

We have a feeling you’ll end up owning more than one type of prop though so regardless of what your friend thinks is the best flow toy to start with, just get whatever you’re most excited to learn!

Fire dancing carries some inherent risks, but if you follow all of our fire safety instructions the risks are very avoidable. We recommend feeling super comfortable with a flow toy before lighting it on fire for the first time.

If you’re new to flow arts, we also recommend getting a daytime practice prop (or even LED prop) since you might be dropping your flow toy a lot when you’re first learning. The Kevlar on fire props can deteriorate much more quickly from repetitive drops, so practice props are ideal to keep them safe.

We have fire, LED, and daytime versions of most of our main props. Even if you can only afford one version and end up starting with a fire prop, they can be protected with wick covers. No matter what type you have, we recommend practicing on soft ground like grass to protect them as much as possible.

After you read the fire safety guide linked above and before lighting up you fire tool, please also read through our safety disclaimer.

We ship our products Monday-Friday from Los Angeles, CA, USA. Many of our listed products are ready-to-ship unless we have to assemble them, which can add a day or two to process. That being said, we ship out orders in the order they are placed within 1-2 business days (with some exceptions like holiday seasons).

Once shipped, we use USPS for orders in the USA and usually UPS for all international orders. Ground shipping in the US usually takes about 3-5 business days from shipping date, while priority shipping can be between 1-3 business days from shipping date. These are estimations and not guarantees as USPS might have delays, but reach out to us if you are looking for more specific time frames!

We can’t promise any specific shipping timeframes for international delivery as customs can cause many unforeseen delays.

Of course! We’re just a text, email, or DM away from being able to answer any question you have. All of our contact details can be found here or you can scroll down to find the buttons in our footer. We’re active on social media too so we are pretty easy to get a hold of!

This category includes Threeworlds Fusion components and modular staff hardware for collapsible contact staffs, dragon staffs, and spin staffs. You’ll also find Flowbonacci plug hubs, dragon staff heads, and other compatible staff components as we continue expanding our offerings.

We stock staff ends, collapsible handles, dragon staff hubs and kits (V3, Ultra, Plug Hubs), spokes, cam bolts, nylon washers, rubber bushings, connector hardware, and assembly tools. These parts are designed for building, maintaining, or upgrading modular staff systems with pressure-fit and collapsible designs.

Our goal is to make it easier to source Threeworlds Fusion components, Flowbonacci parts, and other modular staff hardware within the USA so you are not waiting on international shipping for small but essential pieces.

We are actively growing this category to support more collapsible staff models and dragon staff systems. If you do not see the specific component you need, reach out and we will help you track it down.
