The Monkey Fist Fire Rope Dart combines a classic knotted Kevlar fire head with a high-performance rope leash for a powerful, versatile fire spinning experience. Known for their dense construction, substantial fuel capacity, and impressive burn times, Monkey Fist heads are one of the most recognizable wick designs in the fire spinning community.
Available in two head sizes, the Monkey Fist Fire Rope Dart offers a substantial spinning feel with plenty of momentum for throws, releases, wraps, and martial arts-inspired movements. Choose between heat-resistant Technora and smooth, uncoated Dyneema to customize how your rope dart handles.
Classic Monkey Fist Fire Heads
Monkey Fist heads feature tightly knotted, 100% Kevlar wick without fiberglass blended into the material. Their dense construction provides excellent fuel capacity and a substantial spinning feel.
- 3.15 inch (80 mm): Weighing approximately 5.60 oz (159 g), this smaller Monkey Fist head offers a balance of fuel capacity and maneuverability. Its substantial weight provides consistent spinning momentum while remaining more responsive than the larger option.
- 3.75 inch (95 mm): Weighing approximately 6.40 oz (181 g), this larger Monkey Fist head provides additional Kevlar for greater fuel capacity and potentially longer burns. The increased weight creates more momentum during throws, swings, and other rope dart movements.
Both sizes offer the familiar round profile and dense construction that have made Monkey Fists a staple of fire spinning for years.
Choose Your Rope Dart Leash
We offer two high-performance rope materials, each with distinct advantages depending on your experience and preferred spinning style. Both options use 3/16 inch (5 mm) rope and measure approximately 10 ft 2 inch (310 cm).
- Black Technora: A high-strength, heat-resistant aramid rope that is particularly well suited for beginners. Its excellent heat resistance makes it more forgiving of accidental tangles and brief exposure to elevated temperatures. Technora has a slightly more textured feel against the skin and gradually softens with use. The leash uses a continuous length of Technora from the hand loop to the dart-end hardware.
- Black Dyneema: An exceptionally smooth, lightweight rope preferred by many intermediate and advanced rope dart artists. Our Dyneema is completely uncoated, with no polyurethane coating, so it feels smooth right out of the package without requiring a break-in period. A heat-resistant Technora lead is spliced between the Dyneema and the dart-end hardware to provide additional protection near the flame.
Important: Dyneema has a much lower melting temperature than Technora. Although the Technora lead provides additional protection near the fire head, the Dyneema portion can still melt if exposed to flames or excessive heat. We generally recommend Technora for beginners and Dyneema for more experienced rope dart artists who prioritize smoothness and have developed consistent rope control.
Swivel & Quick Link Connection
Each rope dart includes a swivel and quick-link connection between the leash and fire head.
- Swivel: Helps prevent the rope from twisting excessively during rotations and other spinning movements.
- Quick Link: Allows the Monkey Fist fire head to be detached or replaced without replacing the entire leash.
The connection hardware is securely attached to the rope using spliced construction rather than relying on a simple knot.
Integrated Hand Loop
Instead of a separate handle, the rope dart features an integrated hand loop formed by splicing the end of the rope back into itself.
To create the handle, pass the rope dart and remaining leash through the small spliced loop, then pull it through to form a larger, secure loop that fits around your entire hand.
This simple design provides a dependable connection without adding unnecessary handle hardware. You can also shorten the effective rope length by tying additional loops near the handle end.
Choosing Your Rope Dart Length
The included leash measures approximately 10 ft 2 inch (310 cm), providing plenty of length for a variety of spinning styles and body proportions.
A common starting point for rope dart sizing is your wingspan plus the distance from your shoulder to the ground. This measurement should account for the complete setup, including the rope, fire head, and connection hardware.
If the supplied leash is longer than your preferred setup, you can shorten the effective length by tying additional loops near the handle end.

Fire Safety & Maintenance
Fire rope dart requires proper training, spatial awareness, and appropriate safety equipment. The weight of Monkey Fist heads and the length of the rope make controlled technique and adequate spinning space particularly important.
- Never soak the rope leash in fuel. Only the Kevlar wick head should be fueled.
- Keep the leash away from direct flames whenever possible, especially when using Dyneema.
- Inspect your Kevlar head, rope leash, splices, swivel, and quick link before every use.
- Replace any rope showing signs of fraying, melting, heat damage, or compromised splices.
- Ensure the quick link is fully closed and securely tightened before spinning.
- Avoid leaving the burning dart stationary on the ground, as concentrated heat can damage the rope and surrounding surfaces.
- Practice new techniques with unlit equipment before attempting them with fire.
